The Presbytery of the South of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church on April 18, 2008, approved appointment of Rev. Dr. Robert L. Reymond as regular supply pastor and Dr. E. Calvin Beisner as ministerial assistant at Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church. Drs. Reymond and Beisner will share pastoral duties for the church as it continues as a mission work and prepares to become a particularized congregation.
Dr. Reymond is well known worldwide as the author of A New Systematic Theology of the Christian Faith and many other books. He has been pastor of several other churches and has taught systematic theology and apologetics at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, MO, and Knox Theological Seminary in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
A founder of Holy Trinity, Dr. Beisner is national spokesman for the Cornwall Alliance for the Stewardship of Creation (www.cornwallalliance.org) and the author of Psalms of Promise: Celebrating the Majesty and Faithfulness of God and many other books. He formerly taught interdisciplinary studies at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, GA, and historical theology, ethics, and apologetics at Knox Theological Seminary. Having served two congregations previously as a ruling elder, he is now taking on a pastoral role for the first time while Dr. Reymond mentors him toward ordination.
Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, serving Broward County, was formed as a mission work in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church at its Presbytery of the South's meeting in April, 2007.
Our overseeing session (until such time as we are able to elect our own elders) consists of Rev. David Smiley, from Providence OPC in Bradenton, FL, Ruling Elder Al Hanna, also from Providence, and Rev. Bill Hobbes, pastor of Calvary OPC in Tallahassee, FL.
On May 20, 2007 thirty-five people gathered to worship the Lord at the inaugural public worship service. Associate General Secretary of the Committee on Home Missions Rev. Richard Gerber was present to preach and administer the Lord's Supper for us.
The weekend of August 12, 2007, Rev. David Smiley and Mr. Jim Heemstra, Regional Home Missionary for the Presbytery of the South, came to interview prospective members. On Sunday, the 12th, twenty-five people were received as our first members!
On Sunday, May 4, 2008, our congregation gathered to celebrate our first anniversary with a fellowship dinner. Rev. David Smiley was with us to administer the Lord's Supper and to receive new members into our midst for the third time. Since Holy Trinity's founding, our average attendance has nearly doubled. We are grateful to Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for the blessings showered on us in this first year.
